The Regfind.exe tool enables you to search the registry data, key names, or value names on the local or a remote computer. Regfind.exe supports numerous arguments to help you refine the registry search, such to search for specific types of values or malformed REG_SZ and REG_EXPAND_SZ values. To change a registry setting, begin by locating its key. Do this either by using the Find function or by manually navigating the hierarchy if you know where the key is located. To use the Regedit search function to locate a key, value, or data, press Ctrl-F, type a search string in the find field, and press Enter or click on Find Next. System policies override settings which are contained in the other two registry files. Now try to run the registry editor and see if it works.
Creating a file association here uses two steps, which duplicate what the assoc and ftype commands do in their registry area. For an example, we will associate the ".c" extension to the "sourcecode" filetype, and then tell Windows to launch anything in the "sourcecode" filetype in gvim version 7.2, opening the file in a new tab.
You can add the TNS_ADMIN parameter to change the directory name for configuration files from the default location. For example, if you set TNS_ADMIN to ORACLE_HOME\TEST\ADMIN, the configuration files are used from dllme safe ORACLE_HOME\TEST\ADMIN.
By doing this, you’ve opened the Registry Editor of the user whose registry settings you want to change. Now you should learn how to use Registry Editor to load said user.
This Piriform product is probably the best registry repair tool. CCleaner’s built–in registry cleaning utility does most things a good registry cleaner could do, and it offers a neat and clean interface. The tool asks you whether to back up the registry before making any changes. With CCleaner, you can also perform a quick or in-depth analysis of your files, disk and registry; remove any program leftovers; and choose which applications to run at Windows PC startup. Moreover, you can manage all your browser plug-ins, find unnecessary duplicates, clean your drivers and more. The CCleaner software also comes in a paid version , but the freeware version is sufficient for most Windows registry cleanup tasks.
Luckily, although Windows does not provide a GUI or even easy command-line tools to edit or change it, Windows 2000 and above provide a place in the registry that can be used to store user-specific file associations. This place is HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes.
If not, go to the command prompt and type in gpupdate, but only if you are not in a corporate environment. In a corporate network, the gpupdate command will download the settings from the server again, which might just overwrite the setting to Enabled. The command line tool reg.exe which ships with the Windows operating system can be used to manage the Registry from the command line. It provides you with access to delete or add but also other options like exporting, comparing or importing keys. There are a few scenarios where a Windows user might have to or want to use the command line instead of the Regedit tool to change, delete or add keys in the Windows Registry. Even though it might not be the easiest thing to do, editing other users’ registry settings without logging into their accounts is certainly doable. The main account will remain intact, so should anything go wrong, the admin account would stay safe.
