Maintaining the smooth finish and the rich color of your house’s interior does not mean that you have to repaint the whole room to fix the scratches, marks, dents, and dings. By applying the right color and proper techniques, you can touch up selected spots of your wall paint and make them look freshly painted and flawless. Here are some of the best ways to touch up paint.
Wash the surface- Before making any repairs, clean the surface with mild detergent, sponge, and water. Dust, grime, and dirt build up on the wall can affect the paint when you start touching up. After cleaning, dry it with a clean towel.
Make repairs- Use a sparkling compound to fill in the dents, deep scratches, and small holes. Using a piece of sandpaper, lightly smooth the surface around the area to be repaired. Next, apply enough sparkling compound to fill the hole and or crack. Continue doing this until the hole is filled then wipe away the excess compound from the wall.
Prime- Prime the newly repaired areas for color blending and paint adhesion. Remember, without the primer the touched up spot will stand out from the rest of the painted surface. Ensure that you keep the size of the primed area confined to the repair area for you to get the best results.
Apply the same paint- Normally, it can be difficult to match the color of the paint but whenever possible always keep any leftover paint so that you can use it for touch ups. Make sure that you apply the same paint that was used. However, if you do not have the same paint try to match it with the same color, brand, and finish.
Check the touch ups and the drying- Allow the paint to dry completely and then check out how the touch up comes out. The appearance should be the same in both natural and artificial light. Ensure that someone visiting the home cannot be able to see the touch up places.
